Committee Responsibilities

End of the summer

  • Purchase folders 575+ ( one for each student, each teacher, an extra for each class in case of loss or new student, and one for each classroom tallier)

Early September

  • Create a Reading Program Tallier volunteer form. Give to room parent committee to distribute on curriculum night

Fall

  • Choose a theme for the program
  • Work with “Arts in Ed” teachers to plan an opening assembly
  • Choose dates for the program –usually 8 weeks
  • Plan a date for the awards ceremony –to be held at the high school. Contact Jason Fleming to reserve the auditorium (249-6794) jfleming @penfield.edu
  • Make a list of the talliers(with teacher name) and contact info –phone and email
  • Develop Reading Program calendar
  • Obtain brown grocery bags for each tallier
  • Solicit Various businesses for incentives to give out
  • Order incentives from Oriental Trading Co
  • Order supplies from Demco(promo, bookmarks…)

November

  • Purchase reusable wegmans bags for each tallier(this will also be their “Thank You” gift)
  • Get class lists and labels from school secretary
  • Create student tally sheets. Make copies
  • Create instructions for students/parents page. Make copies
  • Create instructions for talliers page. Make copies

Early December

  • Pack tallier bags and folders(label both)
  • *Stuff student folders
  • *Create promo flyer for morning announcements, enews, and Scribbles introducing the coming of the reading program and the theme

2 or 3 weeks before program starts

  • Contact talliers and set up a date and time to pick up the bag of supplies, folder and instructions
