Q: Why should I join the PTA?

A: Joining the PTA is a great way to show support for the programs that are provided, get proactively involved in your child’s education and meet other parents. Member support is always welcome and does not obligate you in any way.

Q: Who can join the PTA?

A: The PTA is an inclusive organization that is open to all adults who care about children and schools. We have learned that the main thing parents want from schools is to help their child succeed academically, emotionally, and personally. PTA bridges the connection between homes and schools. By getting involved with PTA, the child who benefits most is one’s own.

Q: Do I need to renew my membership every year?

A: Yes. PTA memberships are valid for only one school year.

Q: How does the PTA benefit Scribner Road students?

A: The PTA provides funding for Arts in Education, field trips, and 5th grade graduation. PTA organizes parents to support social events such as Fall Fling, Fun Day and the School Yearbook. It also organizes parents to support academic events such as the Reading Program, Kids Clubs, Chess Club and Planet Science.

Q: How does the PTA benefit Scribner Road parents and families?

A: The PTA sponsors parent education sessions, publishes the Scribbles Newsletter, and organizes Family Fun Nights to give families an opportunity to socialize with other Scribner Road families.

Q: How does the PTA benefit Scribner Road teachers and staff?

A: The PTA organizes several events each year to show our appreciation for our teachers and staff. The PTA provides teachers reimbursement for classroom expenditures and organizes the Room Parent volunteers. PTA also provides funding for the Scientist in Residence program.

Q: What kind of time commitment is required if I join the PTA?

A: There is no minimum time commitment required as part of PTA membership. Our hope is that the meetings and social events are varied enough so everyone can participate at least once throughout the school year. But even if your schedule does not permit you to be an active member, we hope that you consider joining anyway. Member support is always welcome and does not obligate you in any way.

Q: What happens to my PTA membership dues?

A: A portion of the fee is sent directly to the New York State PTA to support PTA at the national, state, and local levels. The balance of your PTA dues is applied toward the general PTA budget fund. The portion sent to the NYS PTA provides local PTAs and members access to many valuable resources, information, and training programs. This includes online resources, special discounts and offers, and leadership training.

Q: Can anyone attend PTA meetings?

A: Yes. PTA meetings are open to everyone.

Q: Must PTA members attend PTA meetings?
