Reading Program

Spread the love

Each year the PTA Reading Program committee puts a special effort into encouraging our students to reach their reading goals each night and aims to make reading a fun and educational part of each day for a month, or longer.

Students at each grade level participate; those who have not yet learned to read have someone read to them. Teachers and staff members are encouraged to participate as well. The children, along with their teachers, decide on a reading goal (anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes per night) and are asked to commit to participating five out of seven days each week of the program. Parent volunteers tally the reading logs that students are asked to complete.

This program encourages learning to read by providing a classroom incentive, peer support, teacher involvement, and an end-of program grade level prize.  At the half way point, each class will receive a grade-level appropriate book to add to their classroom library.  An additional copy of each grade-level book will also be donated to the library.  At the end of the program, the class with the most minutes tracked in each grade-level will receive a gift card to purchase books for their classroom library as well as a certificate of participation.
