Scribner Restaurant Month – Final Week Tree Town Cafe

This month, Scribner Road PTA is featuring Restaurant month.
We have partnered with some local restaurants to support and to promote their businesses.

This week, we are featuring Tree Town Café!

They are a café who loves serving wholesome, locally-sourced, artisan crafted food and drink to our beautiful neighborhood and surrounding community at large

Career Night sponsored by Indian Landing Project LEAD

Indian Landing Elementary School is hosting online Black History Month event, but open to all Penfield and Rochester K-5 students.

It is a career night featuring local Black leaders! Rep. Samra Brouk will be part of the line-up, along with many other fantastic local Black leaders.
Kids will  have the opportunity to ask questions of these leaders and learn about their career paths.

This virtual event will take place this Thursday, February 11th, at 7:00 P.M.

Black History Month Week 3 – James Weldon Johnson

Scribner Road is celebrating Black History Month featuring 1 important person per week.
Students can submit a short sentence or picture to enter weekly raffle to win the book of the week.

This week, we are featuring James Weldon Johnson.

James Weldon Johnson, a writer, lawyer, and civil rights activist, was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 17, 1871.
Johnson was a leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), where he started working in 1917.
In 1920, he was the first African American to serve as the executive secretary of the organization, similar to a chief operating officer.
Through this position, Johnson was able to bring attention to racism, lynching, and segregation.

Black History Month Week 2 – John Lewis

Scribner Road is celebrating Black History Month featuring 1 important person per week.
Students can submit a short sentence or picture to enter weekly raffle to win the book of the week.

This week, we are featuring John Lewis.

John Robert Lewis was an American politician, statesman, and civil rights activist and leader who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia’s 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020.
He was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee from 1963 to 1966.

His portrait is on State Street in Rochester
