Why: The game of chess helps students improve their concentration, logical thought, ability to spot patterns, problem-solving skills, planning, patience, focus and self-discipline.
- Chess is a competitive activity, but good sportsmanship and fair play are taught as essential elements of the game.
- Chess Club develops social skills as members learn, practice, problem-solve and play together.
- Chess club welcomes all levels of players at all ages.
Who: Scribner students in grades 1st through 5th
When: Thursday 1/9. 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6 and 2/13
3:20 – 4:20 pm
Cost: $11 per student allows us to pay our Chess Masters and offer students a small snack.
Parent volunteers: Parent volunteers are needed each week to help supervise. No chess experience is needed. Please see the “Volunteer” link above for access to the sign up.
Pick Up: Students should be picked up at 4:20 pm. Students must be signed out by a parent/adult guardian at the classroom.
NOTE: Parents must send in a note each day allowing their child to stay after for chess club. This insures that the office and teachers have up to date information.
