Scribner Road is celebrating Black History Month featuring 1 important person per week.
Students can submit a short sentence or picture to enter weekly raffle to win the book of the week.

This week, our final week, we are featuring Lebron James.

In 2011, James began to think about his hometown of Akron, Ohio and how he could help students there.
He created the “I PROMISE” campaign, which led to a new school.
The school, which opened in 2018, grants free tuition to the University of Akron for all graduates who achieve at least a 3.0 GPA.

This week, we are featuring John Lewis.

John Robert Lewis was an American politician, statesman, and civil rights activist and leader who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia’s 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020.
He was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee from 1963 to 1966.

His portrait is on State Street in Rochester

Black History Month Week 1 – Katherine Johnson

This week, we are featuring Katherine Johnson.

She was a mathematician who calculated flight trajectories for Project Mercury and other missions.
Her work at NASA was recently featured in the movie “Hidden Figures”
